The Ministry of Municipal Affairs is seeking a Manager to provide overall direction and management of the University Endowment Lands (UEL), an unincorporated community located between the City of Vancouver and the University of British Columbia. The Manager, overseeing a diverse staff of up to 20 is responsible for developing and maintaining an up-to-date community planning and regulatory framework for the community. Demonstrating a strong strategic orientation, the Manager is responsible for overseeing the provision of high-quality, cost-effective services and maintaining positive relations with citizens of the community and a range of interests. Operating under the authority of the University Endowment Land Act, services provided include water, sewer, parks, roads and drainage with a budget of approximately $12.0 million. The Manager operates in a complex, inter-jurisdictional environment, building and maintaining positive relationships and overseeing practical service arrangements with the Musqueam First Nations, City of Vancouver, the Metro Vancouver Regional District, University of British Columbia and provincial service delivery agencies responsible for highways and policing.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:

  • A degree in community planning, engineering, public administration, building technology or a directly related field.
  • A minimum of five years progressively responsible experience in the provincial or local government or an equivalent combination of education, training.
  • Experience working with senior non-elected officials in the provincial and local governments.
  • Experience leading and resolving complex staff and/or client issues.
  • Experience in the supervision of multi-disciplinary operational staff

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Experience related to local government operations.
  • Experience as statutory decision maker within a public sector environment.
