Our open-pit mine and concentrator in Voisey’s Bay - Vale’s only fly-in/fly-out operation in Canada - produces nickel-cobalt-copper concentrate and copper concentrate. An underground expansion will see a transition to a leading edge underground mine extending the life of the mine until 2034. Our state-of the-art facility in Long Harbour is the first nickel processing plant in the world to use hydrometallurgy technology to produce Plating RoundsTM from hard rock (sulphide) concentrate, with low carbon footprint compared to traditional smelter technology. A team of employees across the province provide support to the Newfoundland and Labrador Operations.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Camp and Power Planet Supervisor to join our Site Services Team in Voisey’s Bay, NL . This permanent position is based at the Voisey’s Bay mine site in Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation. This position is on a two week on, two week off rotation.

The Camp and Power Plant Supervisor will oversee the daily operations of the Power Plants and accommodations including the catering and security contractors. The Camp and Power Plant Supervisor will ensure that safety & environmental procedures are followed and will ensure the catering & cleaning and security for site is acceptable to all employees and meets Vale’s high standards. The Camp and Power Plant Supervisor will also ensure that sports, leisure & recreation facilities for camp occupants are amenable to all those living & working at the mine site.

In this position, you will:

  • Work closely with the Site Services Superintendent and maintenance departments on the ongoing operation and maintenance of camp and power plant facilities.
  • Implement and update procedures for effective and safe operation of facilities in his/her area of responsibility.
  • Lead the Implementation of VPS – Vale Production System , within her/his area of responsibility.
  • Foster a culture of Diversity and Inclusion.
  • Oversee employee development and training to ensure a safe productive work environment.
  • Aid in the daily / weekly administrative activities of the work group and ensure sufficient resources are in place for safe operations.
  • Work closely with the catering & cleaning contractor as well as the security contractor to ensure a high level of service to the operation.
  • Work on projects as directed by the department Superintendent.

About You:

  • A post-secondary degree/diploma or technical certificate in either the mechanical or electrical fields.
  • A class 3 Power Engineering Certificate.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in a similar role.
  • Previous supervisory experience in a fly in/fly out operation
  • Ability to effectively lead and motivate a team.
