Position Overview

The Police Administration Department requires 2 regular full-time Communications Operator 3s to work at the RCMP Detachment.
Responsibilities
You will perform responsible specialized work involving the operation of a police radio, telephones, and computer terminal equipment on an assigned shift. Considerable initiative is necessary for handling all radio traffic for the Detachment, controlling the priority of such traffic, and dispatching mobile units in response to complaints and emergency situations. This work requires a high degree of operational speed and accuracy, the use of sound judgment and the ability to work in a stressful environment. You will also oversee other municipal employees; determine meal/rest break schedules; coordinate leave requests and sick relief coverage; conduct training of new telecommunications staff; and participate in performance evaluations.
Requirements
You will use CPIC, PRIME and CAD, monitor various radio channels, and operate and maintain recording equipment. A considerable knowledge of the methods and procedures used in the operation of the above is required. Sound experience in related duties, preferably as a Communications Operator 2 or a Telecommunications Supervisor, is essential. Sound judgment, combined with the ability to think clearly and quickly in emergency situations with accurate results is a necessity. Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to take initiative, provide exceptional customer service, and contribute positively in a team environment, are essential in this leadership role.
You will have the ability to type at a net speed of 40 wpm and possess related education, training and experience. You will be required to obtain and maintain an RCMP security clearance as a condition of ongoing employment.

Compensation
$33.56 to $39.50 per hour
(Pay Grade 21 – January 2021 rates)
Hours of Work
Shift Work – 24/7 operation
