Job Title: Draftsperson

Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Reports To: Drafting Team Lead

Location: Waterloo, Ontario

Reporting to the Drafting Team Lead, the Draftsperson is primarily responsible for altering base design drafting plans for permit application.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and provide technical working drawings for production and personalized homes
  • Develop and maintain architectural drafting standards and details
  • Ensure design concepts and construction documents comply with and satisfy municipal requirements and zoning by-laws, standards, Ontario Building Code and specific architectural controls.
  • Maintain pre-determined timeline schedule to hit milestone deadline
  • Day-to-day general office duties for the drafting department, including set-up of new job files and coordinating with engineers and other consultants
  • Complete scope of project from preliminary design concepts and base plans to working drawings
  • Establish and maintain architectural details and drafting standards for residential projects
  • Document all work completed in terms of time and date in the established timesheet on a daily basis
  • Inform Drafting Team Lead as to status of work and advise of any problems or potential problems as early as possible with identified solutions
  • Meet with the Team Lead to verify design and other specific issues, to ensure the success of the project and ensure quality control for customer satisfaction
  • Sign-off drawings for permit submission using personally obtained BCIN
  • Daily interaction with various departments and outside consultants
  • Provide support to job site for any design requirements
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Requirements

  • Post-Secondary School diploma or degree
  • 3 to 5 years’ drafting experience in a production residential home building environment
  • BCIN No. and OBC course completion considered an asset
  • Extensive knowledge in construction considered an asset, including construction documentation, architectural styles and local design trends, municipal zoning bylaws, and development schedules for design and working drawing programs
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office including the most current versions of AutoCAD and SoftPlan are required.
  • Experience with Revit and Sketchup an asset.
