As the Farebox Handler, you will be responsible for emptying Fareboxes at Spring Gardens Facility during the afternoon shift. Primary duties include:
  • Prepare farebox station by turning off alarm, selecting, and cleaning the receptacle to be used.
  • Inserts keys in farebox, removes cash box, empties into receptacle and returns to bus farebox as buses arrive.
  • Ensure that malfunctions in equipment are reported.
  • Use specified receptacle for special route counts as instructed.
  • Responsible for maintaining farebox station by hosing down lane or clearing ice.
Qualifications
  • Completion of some high school courses such as English and Math.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License (or provincial equivalent), with no more than 6 demerits and no current suspensions or charges pending.
  • Must be able to obtain a “Q” endorsement.
  • Must be able to obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit.
  • Ability to carry out oral or written instructions effectively and maintain simple clerical records.
  • Must have the physical ability to carry out the strenuous physical labor involved.
  • Must possess sufficient dexterity and coordination to perform duties quickly without causing damage or malfunctions to the equipment or delays to the movement of vehicles.
Working Conditions: Work involves prolonged heavy physical exertion under all weather conditions.
Pre-employment Requirements
  • A security clearance will be conducted.
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
Pre-employment Drug Test: An offer of employment for this position will be conditional on an applicant passing a pre-employment drug test. This test assesses for use of drugs including cannabis. Failure to pass a pre-employment drug test may prevent an applicant from being hired into any safety sensitive position for a period of up to twelve months.

Compensation: $29.59 - 33.11 per hour

Days of Work: This position works the afternoon shift on
Friday - Monday from 17:00 - 03:00 hours, with Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday off.


Hours of work: Non-standard 40 hour work week.
