Horizon Telecom Inc. (HTI) is a full-service turnkey provider for the construction of fiber optic networks for communities. Based in Western Canada and United States.

From its Internal Engineering and Design Department to OSP, and Civil Construction Services which also includes the retrofitting of existing multi-dwelling buildings, mobile home parks to entire neighborhood strata from single family units to any size complex.

Position Overview

HTI Telecom is currently seeking experienced and motivated Fibre Optic Splicing Technicians to join our operations. Fiber Optic Technicians are involved in all facets of fiber splicing including cable preparation, termination, fusion-splicing, testing, and troubleshooting.

Position available at all HTI locations i.e.

• Nanaimo Island
• Kamloops
• Kelowna
• Lower Mainland

Working Conditions:

• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
• Ability to lift up to 60 lbs

Schedule:

• 10-hour shift
• 8-hour shift
• Monday to Friday

Salary:

• Starting pay is $26 for entry level experience.
• Could be discussed based on experience.

Supplemental pay types:

• Overtime pay

Willingness to travel:

• Occasional travel to different HTI sites required.

Required Experience & Knowledge

• Must have OSP and ISP fiber optic splicing experience

- OSP: Splicing underground and aerial fibre, building splice closures, entering manholes and hanging splice closures from an overhead line.
- ISP: Inside terminations, installing fibre termination panels, OTDR and power meter testing.

• Splicing, testing, and troubleshooting of fibre sites and links
• Inspecting fiber routes and hub sites as preventative maintenance
• Proficient in fibre cable termination with connectors
• Well versed in fusion splicing machine technique
• Documenting and reporting on completed telecommunication work
• Maintaining project and telecom safety documentation
• Ensuring all attended sites are clearly labelled
• Locating faults and mobilizing resources within minimal time to counter fault
• Reviewing engineered plans and blueprints
• Strong manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination
• Previous telecommunications experience
• Experience using FO troubleshooting tools (i.e. OTDR, Mass Fusion Splicing, etc.)
• Engineering experience considered an asset
• Preference given to those with additional experience or FTTX / FTTH project experience

• Strong work ethic, self-disciplined, motivated, and organized
• A valid class 5 driver’s license, with a clean Driver’s Abstract
• Ability to safely lift heavy objects, tools, and ladders (30-70 pounds)
• Work well within a team environment and self-motivated enough to perform on their own, be reliable, hardworking, and physically fit
• Have a great attitude and work ethic

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Salary: $26.00-$40.66 per hour
