Quality Assurance Manager

At Ocean Family, we strive to produce safe and good quality seafood to our customers. We love to bring in new seafood products for our customers and continue to supply consistently to our existing customers

The Quality Assurance Manager plans, manages and oversees all activities of the QA Department. Makes sure that standards and procedures are followed, and that hygiene and health requirements are met to ensure that all products meet the established standards. Coordinates activities surrounding government and third-party audits and inspections. Manages governance of consumer and customer complaints. Is responsible for maintaining the plant’s HACCP Program, SQF Certification. Helps promotion of a quality culture through leadership, ownership, and accountability.

Reporting to Senior Management, the Quality Assurance Manager assumes the following responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREA

Maintain all Ocean Family licenses status

Ensure that the company’s Food Safety system requirements are being met on a continuous basis through guidance, direction, follow up and leadership to the quality assurance team

Develop, implement, maintain, and reassess quality assurance programs required to operate a federally licensed establishment.

Responsible for the food safety and quality of all seafood products produced from the Ocean Family facility.

Maintain and update PCP program and other supporting SOPs to ensure they meet the requirements of Safe Food for Canadian Act and Regulation and other third-party certification and customer compliance

Work with the plant management, product management, and product development teams on new product launches to ensure new products meet specifications

Routine employee training on quality, regulatory and food safety procedures, and policies.

Ensure raw materials, manufacturing processes, plant environment and finished products meet established formulations and specifications.

Direct communication to local CFIA staff on any major issues or concerns, ensure all new regulatory requirements are implemented and work with the appropriate operations staff to implement the necessary changes or corrective actions.

Perform investigation on all customer complaints and non-conformance issues and conclude with implementation of corrective action and preventive actions

Implementation and maintenance of regular sanitation and quality assurance audits.

Lead contact for food safety Team, outside pest control, and sanitation chemical supplier(s).

Accountable for preparation and participation in all third-party audits. Maintain professional interaction with all third-party auditors. Assist in follow up corrective actions and preventative measures from audit findings. Recommend and implement approved improvements to production processes, etc., that increase food safety

Lead the Management Team on traceability exercises.

Coordinate, implement, and execute all programs and procedures. Conduct validation studies as needed.

Ensure ongoing compliance with government and customer standards (updating CFIA fisheries, USDA, FDA and our exporting countries’ regulatory requirements, not limited to, but including all labelling requirement)

Promote a positive and professional relationship with CFIA, Management, and co-workers

Oversee the inspection of in process and finished products for compliance to specifications and the completion of the required documents

Manage monthly HACCP Team Meeting, and prepare minutes to be signed by management

Work closely with sales and plant operations in the areas of quality program management, inspections, and testing requirements

2. COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills, Education, Qualifications, Ability)

Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Biology or equivalent

Knowledge of quality systems and processes

2 or more years’ experience with QA systems, regulations, guidelines, and relevant standards always a plus

HACCP certification

Must have a desire for achieving excellence in customer satisfaction, process and product quality and reliability.

Ability to get things done with minimal supervision and willingness to work flexible hours,

Positive and professional approach with willingness to learn

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).

Strong organizational and strategic thinking skills

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Permanent
Part-time hours: 40 per week

Salary: $25.00-$41.76 per hour
