We are a reputable Canadian company providing customers with waste management services and systems looking for a Health and Safety Manager to join our team.
Under the supervision of the Vice President, the Health and Safety Manager will play a key role in our team leading and developing the Health and Safety program while having a hands-on approach with our front line staff. The Health & Safety Manager monitors safety and health regulations, oversees training requirements and maintains health and safety metrics to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and COR certification requirements. They also support the business for prequalification’s and system data maintenance for compliance sites.
Must have excellent communication skills and be a good problem solver as you will be dealing directly with clients and all areas of our business, whether on the phone, email or in person.
As the Health and Safety Manager, you will:
· Assist in the implementation and administration of the company Health & Safety Management program
· Partner with Leadership and Business Unit Managers to support day to day operations
· Drive the development of policies, practices and procedures in consultation with Leadership and Business Unit Managers
· Provide HSE expertise for the facility/function for all new projects and change management activities
· Ensure policies, programs and practices are regularly reviewed and reflect regulatory requirements and industry best practices and aligns with company core values and ESG principals
· Coordinate safety training and maintain safety training records
· Support COR certification requirements, including assisting or leading annual audits
· Lead incident investigation to ensure the “causal factors” and “root cause” have been identified and appropriate corrective measures are implemented; maintain detailed incident log and periodically conduct spot checks on the required evidence elements for record keeping
· Ensure appropriate risk assessments are conducted and follow ups implemented to minimize or eliminate accidents, asset losses that might cause harm to one of the company’s employees, contractors, visitors
· Prepare and conduct monthly health and safety meetings
· Create & maintain reports that track key metrics
· Maintain all databases as required (ISNetworld, Avetta, sub-contractor management, Comply Works, etc.)
Qualifications:
· University degree or certificate in occupational health and safety
· CRSP Designation or working towards the CRSP Designation
· 7-10 years experience in Health & Safety
· Ability to travel to various sites, facilities and offices in Alberta, Northwest Territories and the Yukon. 50% field presence is expected.
· Demonstrated ability to enhance existing programs and develop health and safety programs
· Experience in waste, construction, dangerous goods and logistics industries are considered an asset
· Position requires a high level of initiative and a positive attitude
· Must be able to give and follow both oral and written instructions
· Excellent interpersonal communication and influencing skills with internal and external stakeholders at all levels
· Valid class 5 driver’s license
· Excellent computer skills
