Job description
As a JOEY Restaurants Human Resources Operations Coordinator, you play a key role in advancing our people initiatives, acting as a strategic partner to our Operations team, and driving functional excellence and process improvement. The Human Resources Operations Coordinator is a highly visible, hands-on position with considerable responsibility for multiple human resource functions and is relied upon to exercise independent judgment and discretion in their designated topic areas. This collaborative role will provide support and guidance to store management, supervise the Office Team, and ensure all partners are functioning in accordance with legislative and regulatory policies and procedures consistent with sound employment practices and restaurant operations. This evolving role will be responsible for coaching the store-level partners on proper wage and hour policies and procedures and support the JOEY Human Resources department on policy and protocol implementation, employee relations escalations, and various other compliance matters. As a Human Resources Operations Coordinator, you are a role model and leader to our teams.
Essential Functions:
- Partner with Operations Managers and the Human Resources department to develop and implement human resources compliance programs, policies, and other rollouts that support business goals and drive results while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Protect the interests of employees and the company in accordance with company human resources policies while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations; maintain minimal company exposure to lawsuits.
- Ensure consistent application of HR policies and procedures, in compliance with local, state and Federal laws, including FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act), ACA (Affordable Care Act), FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act), CFRA (California Family Rights Act), paid sick leave, workers' compensation, and unemployment.
- Supervise the restaurant’s Office Team and determine all pay rates and work schedules for these positions.
- Provide support to Operations Managers on best practices in the resolution of minor employee issues to mitigate risks.
- Ensure specific complex employee issues are referred to the General Manager, Head Chef, and Regional Manager for resolution or escalated to the Human Resources department.
- Coordinate with the Human Resources department on major investigation and discipline matters.
- Partner with Operations Managers in recruitment, interviews, performance reviews, and development activities.
- Lead employee onboarding (all onboarding with the exclusion of the arbitration agreement); responsible for ensuring completeness of all new hire packets, including Form I-9s.
- Train, respond to inquiries, and ensure all hourly non-exempt employees are clocking in and out properly.
- Counsel employees who are not in compliance with attendance and break policies.
- Complete final inspection and approval of all hourly non-exempt timecards.
- Ensure that legally mandated safety training and OSHA compliance protocols are current, maintained, and being followed.
- Responsible for assisting and working with General Manager on sensitive issues, including timely filing of guest incident reports and worker’s comp claims.
- Provide information to employees on company-provided benefit programs.
- Support proper administration of human resources information system (HRIS) for payroll, timecard management, leave management, and benefits.
- Perform HRIS audits to ensure full compliance, including reference checks, Calsavers, Form I-9s, arbitration agreements, Responsible Beverage Service certifications, etc.
- Conduct employee personnel file audits.
- Assist with preparation of information requested or required for compliance with laws.
- Organize and conduct employee focus groups.
- Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Requirements
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Associate Degree in Business, Human Resources, Labor Relations, or related field; or relevant combined experience.
- 1+ years of Human Resources experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal, state, and local employment practices and regulations.
- Travel Required: 0-25%
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Human Resources, Labor Relations, or related field.
- 3+ years of Human Resources experience.
- PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification.
- Prior high-volume experience in restaurant, hospitality, or retail industry.
Physical Requirements/Environment/Working Conditions:
- Regular commute to your home store restaurant.
- Store and office environment. Extended periods of walking and standing.
- May also require some reaching, bending, squatting, and lifting a minimum of 20lbs.
- Some exposure to chemicals, fire, gases, and odors.
- Standard office equipment, including PC, laptop, copier, fax machine, printer.
Annual Salary Range:
$65,000- 75,000
Actual salary offer within the listed range may vary based on work experience and other objective factors. The pay range for this position is subject to change and may be modified in the future, in compliance with applicable laws.
