Mistras Canada is currently seeking Industrial Insulators for various projects in Fort McMurray AB commencing October 15, 2020. IRATA Rope Access Certification is an asset but not required.
Position Summary:
Apply, remove and repair thermal and acoustical insulation (e.g., calcium silicate, cellular glass, mineral wool, Styrofoam, fiberglass) on all types of industrial equipment (e.g., ducting, piping, heat exchangers, tanks and vessels).
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
- Coaching skills for mentoring and training apprentices
- Identifies and describes the various components of an oil refinery process system
- Understands, identifies and describes the components and materials used in Industrial systems
- Defines terms, identifies applications, outlines layout process, fabricates and installs of pan-out and cut outs, concentric reducer, eccentric reducer, square to round transition, square to square transition, spherical or elliptical head, gored butterfly elbow and lateral fitting without supervision
- Identifies the terms and applications for pre-insulated panels
- Identifies the applications for removable soft covers
- Outlines the layout process, fabricates and installs removable box coverings on piping and equipment without supervision
- Interprets mechanical drawings to describe processes, identifies their divisions and components related to specifications and addendums related to industrial systems
- Identifies, defines and applies information found on ISO and P&ID drawings for the application of insulating materials without supervision
- Determines quantities by executing a full project takeoff of required documents, interpret specifications and addendums and calculate the total amount of materials needed for project
Education & Experience
- Journeyman certification is required (red seal or equivalent)
- Static equipment experience (such as vessels, heat exchangers, etc.)
- Strong experience with pipe insulation
- Valid safety tickets including : CSTS/OSSA , Fall Protection, Confined Space, H2S Alive, First Aid

- Use of specialized PPE such as respirators, SCBA and possible abatement equipment
Contract length: 4 weeks
