Haven Life Insurance Agency (“Haven Life”) Intern


The Opportunity

As an intern you will be able to demonstrate your ability to adapt and thrive in complex, uncertain and changing situations while highlighting your intellectual curiosity as a continuous learner. You’ll be able to earn confidence and trust through ownership, commitment, and follow-through in achieving results in your projects, while building a deeper understanding of how a business operates, specifically with a continuous improvement mindset. You will bring your ability to manage priorities effectively and adapt quickly to achieve goals. You will also experience first-hand the challenges and problem-solving that a digital life insurance agency faces every day, as you rotate through various parts of the organization (e.g., marketing, partnerships, customer success, strategy).


This internship is HYBRID. You have an opportunity to work 1-2 days a week out of the Haven Life office, which is located at 60 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10010. There can be opportunity to travel to the Boston office at 10 Fan Pier Blvd, Boston, MA 02210.


The Program


This program is intended for college students who are preparing for a future in Sales, Marketing, Distribution, Customer Success, Insurtech, or Financial Technology. As part of our Summer 2023 Internship Program, you will be a part of a company that fosters an inclusive and dynamic environment where our employees are valued for who they are and can build successful careers. Our interns experience both professional and personal development through some of the key aspects of the program described below.

  • Rotational Program: You will rotate through several business areas within Haven Life, ensuring your exposure to a wide range of issues that are relevant to our business. Currently, we expect those business areas to include Marketing, Distribution/Partnerships, Customer Success, and Strategy, spending 2-4 weeks rotating through each group.
  • Final Capstone: Apply your knowledge and skills by participating in a dynamic tech environment, addressing the real-life challenges of the digital marketplace. During each rotation, you will focus on projects assigned by each group and conclude the program with a Final Capstone Project. During the internship, you will have ample opportunity to meet with other members of the Haven Life team and your internship coordinator to discuss your project.
  • Mentors: Be paired with professionals at Haven Life to learn about the business throughout several departments while utilizing your mentors as a sounding board to share and shape your ideas.
  • Networking Opportunities: Engage with the greater MassMutual community by being involved in networking activities and smaller group meetings with senior leaders in the company.

The Minimum Qualifications


  • High school diploma/GED
  • Current college student enrolled in a four-year bachelor’s degree program, with a graduation date of 2024
  • Must have currently a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Demonstrated leadership skills gained from student clubs, community involvement or work experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the US, without requiring any future sponsorship

  • Possesses an interest in insurance business, entrepreneurship, sales, marketing, fintech, insurtech, or a related field
  • Must be coachable, ethical, service oriented, a team player and relationship builder
  • Strong, creative problem solver
  • Strong data analysis skills
  • Able to influence others and demonstrate strong consultative skills
  • Works autonomously, self-starter
  • Intellectually curious and agile learner
  • Able to demonstrate strong business acumen
  • Military experience a plus

Development Opportunities

  • Focused one-on-one meetings with your Internship Coordinator and/or mentor
  • Attend regular team meetings
  • Complete a project for each rotational module, concluded by a Final Capstone in collaboration with other Haven Life interns.
  • 8 Hours per day / 40 hours per week
  • Access to mentorship opportunities

  • Conduct market and industry research
  • Deepen the understanding of the distribution organization and how we go to market
  • Become familiar with insurance-related products and services and a consultative business approach including but not limited to direct instruction, individual research, training, focused projects and practical application
