Job Summary
Plans, designs, installs, maintains and services building mechanical equipment and production equipment related to manufacturing of suction & oxygen therapy medical devices (flowmeters, suction regulators) and patient room furniture (overbed tables, mother baby equipment, casegoods, carts).

Job Duties & Responsibilities
The Junior Manufacturing Engineer will work with Engineering, Quality and Production personnel to perform the following tasks:
- Be part of the Engineering team working on planning and designing of plant layouts and facilities to support current and new production initiatives
- Improve utilization of equipment, human resources, technology, materials and procedures to enhance production efficiency and productivity and reduce production cost through:
o Design, develop and conduct time studies
o Design jigs and fixtures for use in manufacturing of new or current products
o Automation of manufacturing processes
o Select and qualify new production equipment
o Co-ordinate, develop, and maintain production work instructions
- Conduct process failure mode and effects analysis (PFMEA), perform general facility maintenance and preventive maintenance as part of risk management
- Develop process/equipment verification & validation plans and conduct process/equipment verification/validation
- Develop and perform preventive maintenance procedures on building mechanical equipment on a regular basis; ensures all instructions are followed and that each step is executed fully.
- Responsible for installing, dismantling, repairing, reassembling, and moving production machinery
- Complete daily maintenance and repair logs
- Fabricate parts and miscellaneous items from sketches, drawings or original part.
- Create and maintain technical/regulatory documentation (design master records & design history files) for new products and design changes
- Participate in design reviews of new parts and products when required
- Identify, analyze and correct manufacturing process issues and respond to emergency maintenance requests
- Observe, report and/or correct any health and safety concerns (e.g. broken, defective or missing fire/safety equipment).
- Report on damaged and defective equipment; advise production supervisor on repairs required and follows up to ensure repairs are completed.
- Maintain and secure work area and tools.
Education & Experience Requirements
- University Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
- 1-3 years of proven working experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the area of medical device manufacturing or instrumentation
- Working experience in planning and designing plant layouts
- Working knowledge of manual and power tools, common appliances and devices
- Working knowledge of jig & fixture design
- Working knowledge in 3D solid modeling CAD (preferably SolidWorks 2021 or above) and detailing
- Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods
- Good understanding of Process FMEA an asset
- Exposure to ISO quality systems (ISO 9001 or ISO 13485) an asset
- Basic understanding of electronics an asset
