Lead Veterinary Technician needed for busy, privately-owned small animal hospital in Northeast Minneapolis. The Lead Veterinary Technician works in conjunction with the Practice Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of the hospital.

Primary job responsibilities:

  • Assist in screening, hiring and interviewing applicants for assistant/ technical staff
  • Train, supervise, and review veterinary technicians and assistants with a focus on Fear Free techniques
  • Create employee schedules that align with doctor, team and surgery needs . Make arrangements to cover shifts by either seeking coverage by technician team or covering shifts yourself.
  • Make recommendations to the practice manager concerning personnel matters
  • Maintain morale and efficient teamwork
  • Provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance.
  • Monitor compliance with OSHA, DEA and FDA requirements
  • Maintain medical equipment per manufacturer instructions
  • Perform all duties of a Veterinary Technician including, but not limited to the following: monitoring anesthesia, perform dental prophys and full mouth radiographs, phlebotomy, IV catheter placement, lab work, gathering patient histories and extensive client education.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Hours: Monday - Friday 8am - 4:30 pm with up to 1 hour for lunch each day. This is a salaried position so you may need to periodically work before or after your shift to complete some tasks.

Candidate requirements:

  • A high work ethic and positive attitude
  • Previous leadership experience preferred, but will train the right candidate
  • Fear Free certification preferred, but will provide training
  • Ability to arrive on-time and ready to work
  • Proficient in positioning and capturing radiographs - positioning for dental radiographs is a plus
  • Proficient in sample collection - blood, urine and skin
  • Ability to restrain pets in a low-stress, fear free manner
  • Ability to give and receive constructive feedback to maintain hospital efficiency

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $54,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
