The opportunity: This position in the National Accounts Employee Benefits Underwriting organization is responsible for all aspects of risk selection, pricing and proposal for our Group Disability, Life, Dental and Vision new business and renewals for 2,000+ lives. In this role you will apply standard underwriting principles and procedures to evaluate, rate and negotiate price on new business. The National Accounts Senior Underwriting Consultant will apply in depth knowledge of assigned product lines and independent decision making within underwriting policies and procedures.
How you will contribute:
- Review complex new business and/or renewal requests for coverage for all products in the National segment
- In-depth risk assessment and pricing of prospective and inforce customers in conformance with underwriting guidelines and authority limits identifying when additional safeguards or conditions should be included in pricing and risk assessment
- Independently prepare and customize complex coverage & pricing proposals, renewals, client reporting & analytics and amendments through assessment of client data
- Develop strong partnerships with sales, national accounts practice leaders and home office subject matter experts to negotiate complex solutions that maintain and expand market share
- Maintain knowledge on current and emerging industry developments/trends, assesses the impact, and collaborates with senior management to incorporate new trends and developments in current and future solutions
- Proactively manage inforce block of business to maintain profit and persistency expectations
- Provide mentoring and guidance to junior underwriters; provide subject matter expertise to team members and other stakeholders on complex issues
What you will bring with you:
- Ability to work with a diverse range of people
- Minimum of 5-7+ years of group National Accounts underwriting experience is required
- Highly skilled in both written and verbal communications, organization, time/work management, establishing interpersonal relationships, and problem solving
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and flex to changing demands and system/process changes.
- Strong analytical and negotiation skills, as well as an in-depth understanding of industry contractual language and provisions
- Possess a high level, technical understanding of underwriting principles and theory
- Motivated and positive team player
- Proficient PC skills, including MS Office suite programs

If you are a California resident, the salary range for this position is:
- Southern region: $79,900-$119,800
- Central region: $84,200-$126,300
- Northern region: $90,000-$135,000
If you are a Colorado resident, the salary range for this position is $76,200-$114,300 annually.
If you are a New York resident, the salary range for this position is $90,000-$135,000 annually.
If you are Washington resident, the salary range for this position is $84,200-$126,300 annually.
