Job Title: Parent Aide Home Visitor
Purpose of Position: To provide culturally competent, trauma-informed, evidenced based home visiting services with the goal of strengthening the family unit by connecting to available community resources; establishing social and concrete supports; and increasing efficacy of parenting skills, nurturing and attachment, and children’s social and emotional competence.
Job Qualifications
Required
- A bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or a directly related human services field OR bachelor’s degree (outside these areas) in combination with a minimum of 3 years’ experience working directly with families in a human services field.
- Valid driver’s license, private vehicle to transport self and others, automobile liability insurance (100,000/300,000), and satisfactory motor vehicle record.
- Must be willing to travel and visit families in their place of residence.
- Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screen, criminal background, and CPS check
- Must demonstrate fluency in all Microsoft Office products and office skills – email, scanning, etc.
- Must be able to document visit summary clearly and accurately.
- Must be available to work a 40 hour work week between the hours of 7:00am-8:00pm, flexible schedule.
Preferred
- Bi-lingual (Spanish).
- Experience in providing home visitation services.
- Experience working in a human services organization.
- Knowledge of available community resources.
Job Duties
(90% Home Visitation)
- Satisfactorily complete initial and on-going training sessions.
- Attend and participate in regular supervision, team meetings, and agency in-services.
- Provide culturally competent, trauma informed home-based services.
- Establish a trusting relationship with assigned families by initiating and maintaining regular client contact. (Goal: Minimum of one hour face-to-face weekly visits per assigned family)
- Assist families in establishing goals and plans for attaining these goals.
- Assist parents in making and attending appointments for doctors, social service agencies, and school related activities.
- Act as a liaison between families and community resources.
- Become familiar with community resources appropriate to needs of clients.
- Assist in strengthening the family unit by providing education and promotion of protective factors (Knowledge of Parenting, Social and Concrete Supports, Nurturing and Attachment, Children’s Social and Emotional Competence, and Resiliency).
- Assist families in improving their skills to increase self-sufficiency and optimize the home environment.
- Participate in case conferences and collaborate with other services providers working with families.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic case files according to program timeframes and requirements.
- Ensure compliance with all regulations regarding home visits pursuant to program requirements and best practice standards.
- Meet program productivity requirements.
- Perform any other related duties as may be necessary to the functioning of the agency or at the request of the Director.
In addition, a home visitor must possess:
- Knowledge of the parameters and implications of child abuse and neglect.
- Knowledge of child and adult development and family dynamics.
- An ability to work as a team member.
- A strong belief that people can change their behavior given the proper environment and opportunity.
- A belief in helping families to change their circumstances, not just adapt to them.
- Knowledge and ability to model appropriate parent/caregiver behavior.
Other duties
(Agency)
- Must participate in a minimum of one outreach or fundraising event each year.
- Demonstrate the ability to work as part of CAPS team by regularly demonstrating and acknowledging CAPS’ core values.
- Report immediately to the Department of Children’s Services any suspicion of abuse or neglect.
- Maintain confidentiality requirements of the agency.
