What we are looking for:
Working within the Finance department the Payroll Associate will assist in processing bi-weekly payroll for approximately 2800 employees at the Markham and Uxbridge sites and for Markham Stouffville Hospital’s Foundation. You will maintain employee payroll records, process accurate payroll data that meets legal and regulatory requirements in compliance with organizational compensation policies and union agreements, support monthly reconciliation of payroll-related accounts as well as assisting with annual processes.
Key Accountabilities:
- Administer payroll on a bi-weekly basis for salaried and hourly employees with varying degrees of complexity
- Reconcile payroll registers against biweekly payroll submitted to the bank
- Prepare timely and accurate payroll deductions and remittances
- Issue Records of Employment (ROEs) electronically to Service Canada
- Administer garnishments and communication with law office and the courts as needed
- Respond to employee and department payroll related enquiries
- Support and train new users to Scheduling Module and payroll time entry
- Assist with payroll related account reconciliation
- Assist with year-end processes including T4/T4A, and MDC for HOOPP
What you bring to the role:

- Successful completion of Business Administration, Accounting or related program from a recognized Community College/University
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation from Canadian Payroll Association
- Working knowledge of Meditech an asset
- Experience preparing monthly reconciliation of payroll-related general ledger accounts
- 1-2 years of payroll experience in a large organization, preferably in a health care setting
- Previous knowledge/ administration of HOOPP preferred
- Experience completing Records of Employment (ROEs) with Service Canada
- Experience processing payroll remittances required
- Advanced computer skills (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Speed and proficiency in data-entry and strong attention to detail required
- High initiative, strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
- Well-developed interpersonal, communication and customer service skills (written and verbal)
- Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards
- Demonstrates a commitment to a healthy and safe workplace for self and others (staff, patients, families, etc.) by taking all reasonable precautions and working in compliance with hospital related policies, health and safety legislation and best practices and completing relevant mandatory education as required
Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday Days, subject to operational change
Compensation:
BAND R: $27.88 - $33.30 per hour
$54,366 - $64,935 per year
