CG Wellington is seeking a new President to work closely with the Executive and Management Teams and lead each of the operating businesses, execute their plans and capitalize on industry opportunities that align with the vison and long-term strategic plans of the organization.

CG Wellington (“CGW”) is a family-owned, private investment firm focused on the agri-foods sector, primarily dairy production. Over the past 20 years, the company has made 20 acquisitions, with over 150 staff working out of seven locations, plus contract manufacturing in BC, NB and Belgium. CGW businesses serve over 70 international markets, with a particular growth focus on the SE Asian market. Other priority international markets include Eastern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. With high nutrient bioavailability, dairy production will continue to be an important source of protein and dietary fat.

The Opportunity

After 20 years with CGW, the current President & CEO will withdraw from day-to-day operations to focus more on the Board Chair & CEO roles. The new President will be joining a profitable, financially sound business well positioned for future growth, both organically and through acquisition. Position Overview

The President will report directly to the CEO and will have overall responsibility for:

+ Leading the operating teams in each CGW company in order to execute on their plans to capitalize on opportunities that abound in the industry;

+ Working closely with Executive and Management Teams leading the operational areas of current operating companies within North America and Internationally and strives for efficient and effective operations, which meets or exceeds customer expectations for quality, innovation and on-time delivery;

+ Overseeing the annual business planning cycle;

+ Creating an environment for the operating teams to identify the operating company’s vision and direction and the long-term strategic needs;

+ Developing management and leadership capabilities in each operating company;

+ Ensuring business plans are aligned with CGW to include appropriate strategies to harvest opportunities;

+ Overseeing the integration of acquired businesses into CGW and/or current operating companies;

+ Maintaining primary supplier relationships that are open, transparent and mutually beneficial;

+ Ensuring product line mix is appropriate for the opportunities and company skill sets;

+ Creating working relationships with industry partners and influencers;

+ Assisting the CEO in developing long-term market strategy, financing sources and capital sources relationships; assist in evaluating acquisition targets and the strategy to integrate them, along with the Director of Finance;

+ Ensuring CGW anticipates and reacts appropriately to market trends and changing customer needs in its products and services;

+ Fostering a corporate culture that is positive and accountable and is conducive to attracting, developing, engaging and retaining top talent at all levels; and

+ Participating in Board of Director, Advisory Board and Family meetings as required.

Position Responsibilities

Business Operations

+ Driving efficiencies and process improvements that promote customer service, best practices in manufacturing, profitability, quality, safety and cost control.

+ Understanding cost drivers and opportunities to increase profitability on a consistent basis.

+ Works with the CGW team to ensure capital investments are on plan and the anticipated “return on investment” is being realized. Develops plans and strategies to deal with underperforming capital investments.

+ Accountable for the top line revenue, net sales, gross margin and EBIT for CGW.

Financial Operations and Management of CG Wellington

+ Supports the Director of Finance, who ensures CGW’s financial and management reporting systems, policies and controls meet the current and future needs of the business.

+ Oversees the development of business plans and budgets (operating and capital) and then along with the Director of Finance monitors and evaluates performance and the achievement of goals.

+ Monitors quarterly financial statements including the review of variances and revised forecasts to guide future decision making.

+ Supports the annual external audit process as appropriate.

Leadership

+ Demonstrating CGW vision, mission and values

+ Builds a multi-disciplinary, motivated team with a focus on accountability, customer service, quality and optimal financial results.

+ Coach and nurture the next generation of leaders for the companies.

+ Exudes Customer-centricity in all actions everyday.

+ Champion of employment policies and employee health and wellness and ensuring the appropriate operating company culture is alive and well.

+ Ensuring in-house people development programs are in place and carried out as well as robust recruitment and retention strategies.

Communication

+ Plans and prepares for Board of Director, Advisory Board and Family meetings as required.

+ Represents CGW as the key contact for interaction with business groups, trade and industry associations, etc.

+ Provides the CEO with regular progress and update reports.

+ Communicates with all staff on a business and personal level as appropriate.

Administration

+ Reviews changes in regulations and market conditions and determines the potential exposure and impact for CGW.

+ Leads or assists with special projects.


The Ideal Candidate

Education and Experience

+ Proven track record of building people and teams.

+ Post-secondary education in finance and/or agriculture.

+ A minimum of 15 years’ progressive operations experience, including substantial experience at senior management levels.

+ A well-rounded executive well versed in sales and marketing, operations. strategic planning, budget development/management, infrastructure planning, people management and P&L responsibility.

+ Experienced in business planning, operational leadership and execution.

+ Prefer a candidate with leadership experience in both larger and mid-sized companies in highly competitive markets. Experience in a privately held, family-run organization would be an asset.

+ Successful experience in driving a business to improved financial and operating results.

+ Ideally has experience with review and integration of acquisitions.

+ Good working knowledge of computer and information systems.

+ Proven ability to develop and implement changes improving operational and financial effectiveness.
