This is an exempt level position (12 months contract).
We are seeking a Quality/Food Safety Manager with initiative, flexibility, a positive attitude, & the desire to continuously improve quality management programs and systems. The Quality/Food Safety Manager will be responsible for supplier approval program, ingredient risk assessment, customer quality and food safety as well as regulatory requests, co-packer approval and audit programs, oversee specific quality programs and documentation requests, work with the Director of Technical Services on regulatory changes and quality programs updates to ensure compliance with regulatory, corporate, customer & 3rd party audit requirements. This individual will also provide support to plant QFS managers on third party audits and food safety programs. It is the expectation that the Quality/Food Safety Manager will actively participate in continuous improvement objectives in order to meet or exceed customer requirements & business goals. This position reports directly to the Director of Technical Services for Canada.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Keep safety a top priority in everything you do, participate in safety engagement activities.
  • Collect and review supplier approval documents, maintain supplier approval database and risk matrix, monitor supplier performance and track & help resolve supplier complaints for all ingredients and packaging materials.
  • Conduct annual ingredient specifications review and/or issue new ingredient specification(s) to the plants once approved while maintaining approved supplier list.
  • Conduct Food Fraud and Food Vulnerability assessment for incoming raw material and packaging utilizing various database and online sources.
  • Update and maintain raw material and packaging supplier documents in SharePoint site.
  • Manage and coordinate customer quality and regulatory related requests such as Supplier surveys, Specification, Nutritional, GMO, Allergens and Microbials and other customer specific statements via email or in other customer related portals i.e. TraceGain and Salesforces etc..
  • Lead role in conducting co-packer audits and coordinate co-packer related customer quality concerns.
  • Review & develop, update SOP’s and other corporate food safety programs on Policy tech(platform).
  • Perform internal audits at Canadian plants, identify any gaps with current processes and help develop/update food safety programs to resolve non-conformance identified during these audits.
  • Review and maintain essential quality and food safety programs, support plant QFS managers for their customer audit, third party audit and regulatory inspection.
  • Assist Director of Technical Services in preparing technical documents i.e. product specification, standard document packages and customer specific documentation.
  • Coordinate with the U.S. counterparts to ensure synergies in programs between Canada and the U.S.
  • Manage and implement special projects based on business needs as delegated by the Director of Technical Services.
Qualifications/Job Requirements:
  • BS degree in food science related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in food industry specializing in quality assurance, or technical services roles
  • Solid understanding of HACCP, GMP, BRC Food Safety Standards and BRC auditor certificate holder is preferred
  • Effective written & verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills to collaborate with others
  • Excellent organizational skills and time management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, Adobe Acrobat, Salesforce and PolicyTech
  • Fluent in French is an asset.
  • Self-starter with ability to prioritize & set goals with minimum supervision
Physical Requirements:
  • The physical requirements of the job requires ability to climb stairs, lifting up to 55 lbs, prolonged periods of standing and sitting, computer work, meeting deadlines, providing calculated information, working in confined spaces and from heights, bending, kneeling, working adjusted days and/or hours, and working as instructed. Prompt attendance is a must. Physical qualification to wear a respirator is required
