DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Meet with NIC daily for daily job assignment – as duties will fluctuate to meet needs at the nursing station.
  • Assist the NIC and nurses with admin duties as directed.
  • Assist health team with Covid 19 related clinical test.
  • Assist health team with Covid 19 related administrative work (filing etc).
  • Complete Covid 19 rapid testing (GeneXpert & ID Now).
  • Pharmacy room checks of all meds including expiry dates reporting to NIC.
  • Weekly quality control, and stock equipment checks with all orders signed off by NIC.
  • Assist the nurses and medical staff with Phlebotomy. Ensure blood work is done in a timely manner with the overall goal of eliminating waitlists for bloodwork testing.
  • Assist the nurses in prenatal, maternal, well baby, childcare, and preventative health care clinics.
  • Conduct height, weight, glucose testing, and urine collections before clients see medical professionals.
  • Conduct screening for common health problems like dental, vision, hearing tests and head lice.
  • Provide promotion for the activities and services provided by the Deer Lake Health Team in partnership with the nursing station.
  • Create and keep current yearly program activity plans outlining long and short-term program goals, and how implementation will be achieved.
  • Complete actions as indicated in the activity plan.
  • Obtain daily assignments from NIC, complete weekly reports signed off by NIC and submitted to KO Nursing Management (refer to appendix “A”)
  • Prepare weekly, written activity reports and submit to NIC.
  • Attend staff training as required.
  • Perform other related duties as required by NIC and KO Nursing Management.
  • Flexibility to do overtime as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Registered Practical Nurse Diploma
  • In good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
  • Preferable experience working in the rural isolated nursing post
  • Phlebotomy trained
  • Computer skills
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Ability to speak Oji-Cree will be an asset
  • Maintain patient confidentiality
  • Enjoy working with people of all ages & backgrounds
  • Empathy for and understanding of the actions and feelings of people who are unwell
