The Ottawa Rotary Home (ORH) has a search underway for a bilingual Nurse with strong clinical skills and a background in Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC).

This is a split role providing both IPAC supports and guidance as well as a visiting nurse proving hands on care and assessments.

Direct nursing supports are delivered to individuals with developmental disabilities and who reside in a congregate care setting in the greater Ottawa area. The nurse will deliver supports to those with complex medical needs that cannot be met with in-house staffing supports.

IPAC supports will be delivered to agencies funded under MCCSS within the eastern region; Ottawa, Renfrew County, Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry, and Prescott – Russell. This position will work closely with the clinical and health advisory team at ORH to ensure comprehensive support to our partner agencies.

Key Outcomes:

  • Builds a culture of compliance and adherence to IPAC standards & requirements set under the legislation
  • Provides leadership of clinical services within the various program affiliated with ORH
  • Works in conjunction with the management team to promote a culture of improvement and supports all programs in monitoring and improving quality standards of care.
  • Cultivate relationships with staff, residents and families, internal and external stakeholders, and local Health Authorities.
  • Improve the quality of life for individuals living in group homes and provide community based medical supports.

Key Responsibilities and Requirements: Nursing Assessment & Intervention

  • Provide nursing assessments and interventions virtually or in an individual’s home according to the request type.
  • Must have the ability to work autonomously with strong organizational skills for triaging requests, and scheduling visits as per individual and agency needs.
  • Solid nursing assessment and planning of care skills.
  • Must have strong written and verbal communication skills in both official languages and be proficient in providing care in both official languages.
  • Will be required to chart in both official languages as well as communicate with interdisciplinary teams and agencies.
  • Will be required to advocate for clients and agencies in securing health services and in discharge planning.
  • Will require strong critical thinking skills and sound problem solving and contingency planning skills.

Infection and Outbreak Prevention & Pandemic Planning

  • To participate in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of IPAC Programs in Ottawa, Renfrew County, Stormont, Dundas & Glengarry, and Prescott – Russell for congregate care settings funded under MCCSS.
  • To complete Infection Prevention and Control Audits as established by procedures; assist with building action plans and support with quality assurance to ensure IPAC practices are successfully implemented.
  • To support agencies in identifying outbreaks and follow guidelines for reporting communicable diseases to the appropriate government/health authority agencies;
  • To support agencies in identifying and understanding current IPAC measures and requirements as set out by public health units and MCCSS.
  • To monitor, trend, investigate and follow up on infections and outbreaks and identify areas of improvement.
  • To provide continued/ongoing education/training to agencies around IPAC best practice standards.
  • To develop and maintain a relationship with the local Public Health/Health Authorities, IPAC Hub, and Congregate Care Settings under MCVCSS in the Eastern Region.
  • To support the Director of Operations & Health Management at the various tables (Community of Practice, Local and Regional Planning tables).

Surveillance & Monitoring

  • To participate in quality initiatives, perform and/or coordinate audits as requested to ensure adherence to IPAC standards, and recommend improvements.
  • To review monthly and quarterly data collection and analysis of performance indicators and provide reports to appropriate stakeholders.
  • Analysis of nursing intervention in the community and identification of emerging health trends.

Collaboration & Education

  • To coordinate and provide ongoing education to agencies on trending health topics.
  • To coordinate and provide ongoing education to agencies on the principles and practices of infection prevention and control and newly emerging infectious diseases.
  • To attend external infection control meetings when and maintain awareness of current infection prevention and control standards and practices as applicable.

Administrative

  • Act as a member of the ORH Clinical Team and provide on-call support in rotation during evenings and/or weekends.
  • To uphold and promote the organization’s values and philosophy relating particularly to ethics, morality, and integrity as set out in the Home’s Code of Conduct.
  • To complete all other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Credentials, and Experience:

  • Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario with no restrictions to practice.
  • Must be bilingual and proficient in both English and French.
  • Must be able to deliver health services in both official languages (French and English).
  • Experience working as a healthcare professional in the Community and/or Developmental Services preferred.
  • Minimum two (2) years experience in Infection, Prevention & Control.
  • Professional competencies related to life-long learning, public relations, and health environment awareness.
  • Must be highly motivated and creative.
  • Demonstrates strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must have a vehicle and be able to travel as required.
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office applications).
