REGISTERED PRACTICAL NURSE – COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND SUPPORT TEAM
Job Status: 28 Hours/Week – Contract until September 30, 2023

Purpose of the Position:
The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) will provide mental health nursing services in accordance with the
College of Nurses’ Standards of Practice that includes Professional Standards, General Practice Expectations and Specific Practice Expectations.
Education and Qualifications:
- Current certificate of registration in good standing as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with the
College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Medication Administration Certification from a recognized College if this training was not received from the Practical Nursing education.
- One year of experience working with individuals with mental illnesses, chronic physical health, age- related, and substance use issues.
- Familiarity with and commitment to implementing Standards of Practice.
- Manage internal and external relationships to have and demonstrate empathy and compassion, to be aware of emotional intelligence, conflict resolution, and the understanding of the feelings, ideas, and beliefs of others.
- Assist in orientation and support to new staff, students and volunteers.
- Participate in co-worker support and motivation, role modelling and team building.
- Ability to work autonomously as well as cooperatively within a team environment in a rural setting
- Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, the Internet, and data management software
- A willingness to serve clients within the communities of the District of Muskoka and Parry Sound
- A valid Ontario G or G2 driver’s license and a safe and reliable means of transportation and appropriate insurance for work purposes on your vehicle with a minimum of $1,000,000 in liability coverage.
- Bilingual in French/English language considered an asset
- Work schedule includes days/evenings/weekends and statutory holidays.
Major Responsibilities:
- Conduct nursing psychiatric and physical assessments, formulate nursing diagnoses, make recommendations, implement interventions, manage and administering medications, and collaborate and communicate with other medical services/professionals.
- Develop, implement, evaluate and revise recovery plans as required.
- Provide case management and supportive counselling.
- Provide a full range of care requirements for clients where care needs are well established and outcomes are predictable.
- Provide crisis intervention to resolve and stabilize emergency situations.
- In conjunction with other team members, teach, delegate, assign and supervise unregulated care providers (UCP) in accordance with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Maintain and monitor medication rooms.
- Participates in research and educational activities. Provides education to community agencies/individuals about mental health issues, prevention and health promotion. May be required to orient and provide monitoring to students and nurses.
- Participates in the evaluation and monitoring of agency related programs.
- Commitment to implementing standards of practice and agency policy.
- Has knowledge and understanding of applicable legislation, standards and ethical practices relevant to the organization.
- Participate in the CMHAMPS 24/7/365 telephone-based service and respond to clients with self- identified crisis situations, as defined by the scope of practice of the program and/or service delivery model.
Salary scale: $28.41 – $37.20 per hour commensurate with qualifications and experience
Benefits include optional Registered Retirement plan with HOOPP where contributions start on date of hire
