Position Summary
Labour and Delivery RN’s are an integral part of the Maternal Child team providing intrapartum care to women and their families, working on a team with physicians, midwives and other professionals. L&D RN’s provide family centered care to obstetrical outpatients, intrapartum monitoring and support, initial stabilization and care of newborns following both vaginal and cesarean births. Our L&D RN’s provide surgical care to women during both elective and emergent cesarean sections performing scrubbing, circulating and PACU roles. We offer a robust orientation program with a mentor assignment tailored to individual experience levels.
Required
- Current Certificate of Registration in good standing, or eligible for registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario,
- Current CPR or BCLS certificate,
- Minimum 3 months’ (within last year) consolidation clinical work in a maternal child area including intrapartum, post-partum and newborn stabilization and care, or 1 year minimum medical/surgical nursing
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation or willing to obtain within 3 months
- Current Fetal Health Surveillance Certificate or willing to obtain within 3 months
- Educational preparation and experience in lactation support or obtain within 6 months,
- Evidence of continuing professional development,
- Capable of coping with a physically demanding workload. (PDA available to review)
- Demonstrated leadership, critical thinking, interpersonal and communication skills,
- Responsible for the co-ordination of care within the framework of Interprofessional Patient Care Teams,
- Performs acts requiring specialized knowledge, skills and judgement necessary for intrapartum, postpartum and newborn patients,
- Practices within the principles of patient and family centred care,
- Maintains the health record/clinical documentation in accordance with College of Nurses Standards,
- Practicing in compliance with provincial legislation, hospital policy and procedures, professional regulatory standards and evidence based practices within the nursing profession,
- Maintaining professional competence by completing regular professional development including annual training and education as indicated,
- Participates in unit/departmental and hospital quality improvement initiatives,
- Adheres to a safe and healthy workplace and maintains a safe and healthy work environment through attendance at educational programs, use of established mechanisms for injuries and hazards and adheres to health and safety related policy and procedures,
- Adapts and adheres to the values of QHC while promoting and advocating for an enhanced patient experience, and
- Other duties as assigned.
