Position Description:
The Sanitation Technician is a non-supervisory role with the possibility of advancement to a lead Sanitation Technician reporting directly to the Sanitation Supervisor within the company. The Sanitation Technician performs interior cleaning tasks which may be performed in conjunction with the exterior cleaning of manufacturing areas by vacuuming, dusting, washing, replenishes cleaning supplies, uses equipment such as vacuum cleaners, mops, cleaning cloths, special foaming equipment, standard cleaning compounds, special chemicals to remove stains, sweeping, scrubbing floors, washing windows and walls, dusting and polishing, and emptying waste cans. Work is done by hand or with powered equipment.
The Sanitation Technician notifies the Sanitation Supervisor of any damaged equipment needing repair, and maintains a stock of cleaning materials and equipment needed to do the work. The Sanitation Tech tells supervisors when more materials are needed or when equipment is in need of repair or replacement. must move and control heavy equipment, carry and set up ladders and scaffolding, and work from ladders and scaffolds. Frequently, they must lift and move objects weighing about 18 kilograms (40 pounds), and occasionally objects weighing over 23 kilograms (50 pounds).
The Sanitation Technician reviews the equipment and cleaning test results to implement changes required to attain the highest quality product possible under the direction of Sanitation Supervisor. The Sanitation Technician assures company products are wholesome, not adulterated. The Sanitation Technician maintains own equipment and cleans work area, uses equipment such as ladders, sprayers, mops, and brooms. The Sanitation Technician may use hand tools such as pliers, screw drivers, and small wrenches. May clean and polish components which have been removed for repair or may clean ground support and ramp equipment.
The Sanitation Technician checks for damaged or corroded areas and informs supervisor of findings. The Sanitation Technician adjusts cleaning equipment to insure proper mixture, temperature, and pressure to verify conformance. The Sanitation Technician provides technical support to the Sanitation Supervisor in the form of inspections or investigations by gathering, screening, providing information, obtaining background information on subjects of inspections, investigations by means of record searches, structured interviews, automated information retrieval, inquiries, correspondence providing information to authorized persons concerning the status of investigations.
The Sanitation Technician performs inspections involving the determination of the presence or absence of pathological conditions rendering equipment unfit to produce food, to ensure the product has not become contaminated during the processing, the product is handled, stored, and packaged in a sanitary manner to keep it wholesome and fit for human consumption.
The Sanitation Technician ensures equipment and utensils are properly cleaned and sanitary before and during processing operations. The Sanitation Technician ensures cleaning products are handled and stored in a sanitary manner. The Sanitation Technician ensures condemned material, cleaning supplies, waste are handled and disposed of in the proper manner to assure contamination of edible products does not occur. The Sanitation Technician ensures employees are dressed in compliance with the regulations and that personal hygiene requirements are being met. The Sanitation Technician ensures cleaning supplies are properly cared for and used to assure that their condition is suitable for the purpose intended. The Sanitation Technician ensures only approved cleaning agents and compounds are used, ensures fly control procedures are carried out in accordance with regulations, and the outside plant premises are kept in a satisfactory condition. The Sanitation Technician ensures rubbish and waste are not allowed to accumulate and become an unsanitary nuisance.
Working Conditions:
Exposed to hazardous working conditions as a frequent and indispensable part of most assignments. These conditions include exposure to the danger of slipping and falling because of soiled, icy, or wet floors, working around processing equipment which can present a hazard to plant staff and Sanitation employees alike, and constant movement in and out of storage rooms. 90 percent of this position is conducting duties assigned in an environment with temperature and moisture extremes requiring the Sanitation Technician to be on their feet 12 to 14 hours per day. Usually work indoors, in areas which normally have adequate heat, light, and ventilation. They are exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in cleaning industrial manufacturing equipment. Care is required to avoid serious injuries when working on ladders and scaffolds and when using heavy powered equipment.
