Job description
You will support the design, engineering, and cost estimation of an expanding portfolio of development and construction stage solar, BESS, and Microgrid projects that are efficient, high quality, and profitable. Reporting to our Director, Solar and Storage Engineering you will ideally be based near one of our offices: NY, NJ, CO, or CA, but we will consider someone being remote.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Oversee all civil, mechanical, and electrical conceptual designs, including technology selection, preliminary layouts and production of detailed plan sets for solar projects.
- Coordinate with internal teams on design and value engineering input, in preparation for permitting and interconnection.
- Engage with outside electrical, mechanical, and civil consultants to help design and prepare plan-set packages in both the permitting and construction phases of solar development including performance modeling.
- Leverage cost and performance knowledge to inform early-stage design decisions and equipment selection.
- Maintain and implement the company’s internal PV system design standards.
- Lead the hand-off between the Development and Construction teams, overseeing the transition from early-stage design to issued-for-construction plan sets.
- Provide technical support for engineering, procurement, and construction in consultation with the Director of Engineering.
- Develop and lead cost estimating tools across both construction and procurement; expand cost estimating data source and accuracy.
- Maintain and grow relationships with vendors and EPC contractors.
- Traveling to client sites (under 25% of the time)
The Ideal Candidate
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering with a preference for electrical or mechanical engineering.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, AutoCAD, Helioscope, and other solar design software.
- Knowledge of solar, battery storage, and Microgrid technologies.
- EPC or Asset Management experience would be a bonus.
- Strong interest in renewable energy and desire to work in a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment.
- Proactive, results-oriented with the ability to meet timelines.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to quickly prioritize and offer solutions to problems.
- Strong communication skills – both verbal and written.
