DUTIES:
Reporting to the Timmins Campus Manager, the incumbent, as part of the Advising Services team, provides academic services to all students. The incumbent is responsible to provide student support to sponsored students from application/registration to graduation. The successful incumbent will:

  • Provide support services such as social, career, personal and academic guidance as well as referral services to prospective, current and transferring students as needed;
  • Provide clear, accurate and concise academic information to students, staff, faculty and others connected with Northern College;
  • Advise, problem solve, provide guidance and offer support, either on an individual basis or with groups of students;
  • Provide mediation for peer and student-staff academic issues as needed;
  • Guide, advocate and support students through various academic procedures (including appeals when needed); and
  • Establish services that offer support to students that provide them the best opportunity to succeed academically.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 2-year diploma in a Human Services Field, such as Social Work or Indigenous Studies or related;
  • Minimum 3 years of practical experience working with people in the social services field;
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;
  • Excellent organizational and statistical record-keeping;
  • Good judgment and problem-solving skills and the ability to be tactful in handling concerns of students;
  • Ability to work effectively in a team, respectful of confidentiality, and demonstrated knowledge of student issues and services; and
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.

The incumbent may be required to provide a criminal reference check.
