JOB LOCATION: Waukee Family YMCA
SHIFTS AVAILBLE: Afternoons, evenings and weekends for the months of June-August 2023 with the possibility of staying on after.
PAY RANGE: $11.00-$13.00/hour
CLOSING DATE FOR APPLICATIONS: May 24, 2023 - Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Lifeguard, you will be responsible for supervising the activities of the members / guests in the aquatic department and to ensure their safety.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Enforce rules and procedures.
• Keep pool and pool deck free of obstructions and safety hazards.
• Maintain constant surveillance of the water and pool deck areas.
• Handle equipment as assigned to ensure safety.
• Record chemical readings.
• Know emergency procedures and be able to demonstrate them.
• Maintain emergency equipment.
• Respond to all emergencies.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor or designated staff person.
• Demonstrate and support the objectives of the Association as embodied in the mission statement and values.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to read, write, and perform simple mathematical functions
• Must be at least 15 years of age (15 year olds are required to have a work permit on file with the Iowa Division of Labor and the YMCA of Greater Des Moines Human Resources Department.)
• Current Red Cross Lifeguard Certifications or equivalent - prior to starting if hired
• Intro to Y’s Cause & Culture Online Course - prior to starting if hired
• Additional training to be completed within the first 30 days and maintained afterwards.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Visual, auditory, and verbal ability to communicate effectively with people and monitor property and activity
• Ability to remain alert at all times
• Ability to adapt to changing working conditions
• Ability to perform strenuous physical activity

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Good communication skills
• Ability to work with diverse group of people
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Ability to maintain control of area even when distracted by noise
• Attend trainings and/or courses as required by the YMCA
