Work Description

The Tax Accountant will be responsible for the preparation of files, financial statements and corporate tax returns for Taggart Group holding companies, corporate shareholders. This position will also be responsible for preparing annual corporate, partnership, and personal tax returns and T5 returns for all Taggart Group of Companies. The performance of duties requires an ability to manage priorities, handle multiple tasks simultaneously and meet filing deadlines.


Major Responsibilities:

  • Prepare annual year end files and financial statements for the holding companies, corporate shareholders and JV holding companies
  • Review month end files for Taggart Group holding companies, corporate shareholders and JV holding companies
  • Assist in preparation of consolidated financial statements for the group of companies.
  • Prepare corporate, partnership and personal tax returns for all Taggart Group of Companies, and review Notices of Assessment to ensure companies are compliant.
  • Review and/or prepare all tax provisions and provide accounting entries to the controllers.
  • Prepare T5’s Forms in a timely and accurate manner.
  • With respect to the above duties, ensure established process and policy is adhered to, reporting any discrepancies to the Director Corporate Accounting and Tax.
  • Assists the Director of Corporate Accounting and Tax with projects as required
  • Administrative functions pertaining to the above
  • Other duties as may arise from time to time.


Statement of Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in an accounting role.
  • Post-Secondary Education in Accounting or Finance is required.
  • Experience in corporate and personal tax preparation and filing considered required.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong ability to analyze and problem solve.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Excel and Word), tax preparation (Taxprep) and Adobe software considered an asset.
  • Experience in a multi-company environment would be an asset.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and approach situations in a diplomatic and professional manner.

Physical/Sensory Effort/Work Environment

  • Sitting or standing for long periods of time at workstation.
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
  • This role may require overtime.
