Trades Worker I - Carpenter (CUPE 1560)

Duties:

This position performs journeyperson level work in carpentry to build new structures or correct structural deficiencies. Specific duties include: participating in the maintenance, repair, and renovation of wooden structure utilizing work working machinery and hand tools for activities such as demolition and installation, framing walls, drywall, T-bar ceiling, windows, door systems, steel beams, and floor covering; performing workstation modifications; installing smartboards; installing exhaust fans, sealing and insulating duct work; repairing playground equipment; reading and interpreting blueprints, drawings, and sketches to determine requirements; estimating costs and orders materials and supplies; and other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Applicants must have completed high school and possess a Journeyperson’s Certificate (Red Seal) as a carpenter issued by the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador supplemented with at least 4 years of experience in the carpentry trade. Training in First Aid and/or other safety-related courses would also be considered assets. The successful candidate must have knowledge of the National Building Code, fire codes, municipal codes, Asbestos, WHMIS, and Occupational Health and Safety as well as a valid class five (5) driver’s license.
