Details of Employment:
23+ Hour shift: Weekend, Sat. Evening (5 PM – 11 PM; CRW-1), (11 PM – 12 PM; ONS); Sunday (0 AM – 7 AM; ONS), Sunday (7 AM – 4 PM; CRW-1).
(May be requested occasionally to work after 4 PM Sunday as a CRW-1 )
Hours: 23 hours; 15 hours as CRW - 1 and 8 hours as Overnight Sleep (Required to be available for CRW-1 Sunday 4 - 9 PM; Occasional need to work up to 5 added hours)
Background & Location:
FMS Perry is a family managed home in Sherwood Park which has operated for 10 years. Located in a residential house in the Brentwood area of Sherwood Park, near Strathcona County bus routes. Current resident is a sociable autistic male (49 years old) with no problem behaviours, but needs walking assistance and partial use of walker or wheelchair. He requires 24 hours personal attention with minor medical needs, and currently searching for other sharing roommates.
Transportation/Travel Information: Due to the need to take the disabled on outings, the use of at least part-time personal transport is essential. For other occasions, home is located near bus lines (but personal transport would be easier if living outside Sherwood Park), valid driver's license and personal transportation is required for outings (driveway and garage parking). Km rate paid for outings with client.
Duties:
As CRW-1: Assist individuals in personal care and daily living duties, including help with cooking, eating, dressing, bathing and personal hygiene, shopping. Attention to health and medical needs of the individual. Personal needs as required (bathing and clothing clients). Providing medications following a regular schedule, and as needed.
Organize and actively participate in outings with individuals in community. Regular recordkeeping, correct and report inventory and home needs, other CRW-1 duties as required.
As Overnight Sleep – Sleep in staff bedroom on same floor as clients (currently 1 individual). May be required to get up and monitor any night activity (seldom more than 15 minutes per night). In exceptional cases, if a few hours of Overnight Awake is required, then the CRW-1 rate may be used.
Salary: PDD maximum hourly to $18.40 for CRW-1 and to $15.00 for Overnight Sleeping

Training Requirements:
Education: Completion of high school; Ideally - some college / NAIT / vocational or technical training, some university. Preferred minimum - Community Disability Services Worker (CSW / DSW) or Human Services Diploma and/or experience in the field of disability caregiving, particularly in a home setting. Other equivalencies will be considered.
Credentials (certificates, licenses, courses, etc.): Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certificate, First Aid Certificate. Medical Administration Certificate. Courses completed or planned - Continuing Care Assistant certification. Non-Violent Crisis Management. Dedication to continuous learning an asset.
Experience: Previous disabled caregiving experience is an asset, particularly dealing with Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Skills:
Specific Skills
Provide personal services support to persons with special needs. Supervise activities of clients living in group homes. Personal needs as required (bathing and clothing clients). Providing medications as required on a regular schedule.
Assess client's relevant skill strengths and development needs; Assist in suggesting and developing programs consistent with client plans and assess the results; Liaise with administrators, parents, other social services agencies and health care providers involved with clients. Develop, coordinate and implement specific services and activities within the community.
Additional Skills
Administrative and office activities; following regulations and directions. Food and meal planning, inventory and preparation. Handling and recording client’s’ personal expenses. Attend to and report any Security and Safety issues, Housekeeping and routine maintenance activities, including some cleaning, yard work and essential snow clearing; Moderate weight handling (Up to 13.5 kg or 30 lbs). Reading and writing reports; Communication and working with others. Job task planning and organizing; Showing initiative, decision making ability and finding information. Continuous learning.

Security and Safety: Dependent Individuals Criminal record check, Bondable, Vaccination record. Others if required.
Physical Capabilities and Work Conditions: Walking and assisting individuals onto transportation, some lifting and cleaning, Repetitive tasks, Attention to detail, Neighbourhood home, some housekeeping. Activities a combination of sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, bending, crouching and lifting.
