Provide leadership, supervision and training in a dynamic and changing environment
The Environmental Assessment Office (EAO) is a dynamic work place with a talented, team-oriented staff and a mandate that includes working on some of the largest resource development projects in Canada. The EAO is a stand-alone, neutrally administered regulator that undertakes rigorous, thorough reviews of major projects in British Columbia. These reviews require active engagement by EAO staff with Indigenous nations, government agencies and the public to administer environmental assessments (EA). The work of the EAO is central to Indigenous reconciliation, sustainability and the economy by ensuring environmental, economic, social, health, and cultural effects from proposed major projects are understood and managed in the regulatory process. The EAO maintains a comprehensive compliance and enforcement program and coordinates compliance management with other government agencies to ensure projects are built and operating as required. The EAO also has in-house policy and information technology professionals to support administration of the regulatory and compliance management activities. The EAO values teamwork and collaboration, and works hard to support staff growth and development.
The Executive Project Director (EPD) is responsible for providing senior leadership on corporate initiatives to the Operations Division and the EAO, leading and directing activities in the delivery of the provincial environmental assessment process for the Environmental Assessment Office, and leading activities related to an industry sector.
The EPD is required to demonstrate accomplished senior-level decision-making, negotiation and leadership skills in leading teams that direct or manage complex project reviews in a high volume, high pressure environment.
As a senior leader in the Operations Division, the position is directly involved in, and accountable for, leading matters relating to workplace environment, human resources, and financial management, as well as strategic and operational priority setting, operational practice and policy, and other initiatives to enhance the efficient and effective operation of EAO.

Job Requirements:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education and experience as outlined below:
- Master’s in relevant discipline and three (3) years of senior management experience; OR
- A University degree related to the natural resources field, Public/Business administration, Law or Economics, with five (5) years of senior management experience; OR
- An Equivalent combination of education and senior management experience may be considered.
Senior Management Experience includes most of the following:
- Experience leading, coaching and mentoring professional multi-disciplinary teams in a highly intense working environment.
- Experience leading and delivering on complex and high profile matters that impact multiple agency mandates or include multiple party interests.
- Experience dealing with senior industry officials on complex issues.
- Experience in engaging with and creating and delivering executive-level presentations for the purpose of decision making on complex matters.
- Experience in a senior leadership capacity leading policy development and/or the delivery of programs/projects.
- Experience working with other senior level officials, including senior managers and executives in government and corporations on corporate initiatives and accountabilities that include human resources, workplace environment and priority setting.
- Experience providing strategic advice on complex matters to officials, including senior managers and executives in government and corporations, and/or elected officials.
Preference may be given to applicants with one or more of the following:
- Experience in a significant lead role in complex, multi-party consultations and negotiations with Indigenous nations.
- Experience leading complex, multi-party initiatives within the Natural Resources Sector.
- Experience leading a team of professionals, with demonstrated success delivering high quality outcomes and outputs.
- Preference may be given to applicants who identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit)
Willingness Statements:
- A significant amount of travel is required.
- Must be willing to meet the transportation arrangements required by the ministry (i.e. travel in small aircraft, helicopter, driving on natural resource roads, etc).
