Compliance Specialist

The Opportunity
As the Compliance Specialist, you will provide technical expertise in addition to administrative and
organizational support for compliance-related programs for the Water and Wastewater (WWW) and Solid
Waste Management (SWM) Divisions. This includes (but is not limited to) coordinating Management System(s)
(MS), administering environmental compliance monitoring programs and inspections at closed and active
waste sites, by-law support, and overseeing preparation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This job
also provides critical support to operations teams within Engineering and Public Works (EPW) and liaises with
regulatory agencies and consultants to ensure effective monitoring of programs, compliance with legislative/
regulatory requirements, and environmental protection
What you will do: What you will need:
- Responsible for the maintenance and continual
improvement of various MS within EPW in
accordance with applicable legislation, standards,
and operational best practices. Activities include (but
are not limited to): review and research of applicable
regulations and industry standards, ensure
procedures and documents relating to operations are
current and in compliance with various MS, and
coordinate materials for staff training.
- Act as a liaison between operations staff and
auditor(s), respond to audit questions, and actively
participate in the assessments.
- Coordinate scheduling, prepare and compile
documentation for internal and external compliance
audits and, following audits, prepare compliance
reports and document findings, identify deficiencies,
and report recommendations to management and/ or
committees on areas of improvement
- Three (3) year Community College diploma in
environmental technology or related field, or
equivalent.
- Member in good standing with OACETT, at a
C.E.T. level is preferred
- Minimum of three (3) years of related
experience in an environmental/ engineering
field.
- Demonstrated experience with regulatory
compliance reporting within a municipal work
environment.
- Demonstrated experience in implementing
and maintaining MS

What we are offering
This is a temporary full-time opportunity at the District for up to 24 months. The annualized compensation
