General Accountability

Directs, negotiates and controls all phases of construction. Acts as the prime point of contact for TTC Operations, contractors, utility companies, public agencies and municipalities, for all aspects of the construction project.

Key Job Functions

  • Manages the day-to-day on-site activities of the construction management team for the Transit Expansion Assurance, primarily focusing on working with Metrolinx and its contractors for the Provincial Priority Subway Program: Ontario Line (OL), Scarborough Subway Extension (SSE), Yonge North Subway Extension (YNSE), and Eglinton Crosstown West Extension (ECWE).
  • Ensures on-site safety, security, and quality control is adhered to.
  • Holds regular progress meetings with Metrolinx, the Designer, the Contractor, appropriate members of the TTC project support team, and other parties.
  • Provides assistance to Metrolinx in the evaluation/negotiation/resolution of contract changes and contractor’s claims related the TTC.
  • Reviews the contractor’s schedules and updates with participation from the project team members as required.
  • Prepares and maintains various reports/documents including construction progress and status reports.
  • Liaises and coordinates with staff, consultants, contractors, municipalities, public/regulatory agencies, and other external stakeholders as required.
  • Promotes a safe environment by ensuring the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable Regulations as well as TTC’s Safety Policies and Procedures are adhered to and requisite training is provided to those requiring it, including but not limited to identifying and addressing hazards, participating in incident investigations, preparing Job Safety Analysis, ensuring PPE is available to workers and that they are instructed in the appropriate use of PPE, ensuring separations are maintained between different constructors in accordance with Designation of Project.

Education and Experience

  • Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline (e.g. Construction, Engineering), and progressively senior experience in the management of medium to heavy multidisciplinary construction projects in an urban environment, or a combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction management practices and principles, including familiarity with construction laws, contract administration and claims management.

Additional Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in construction inspection, administration, documentation and management of a multidisciplinary field staff.
  • Ability to deal with complex issues and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of management.
