Prestige Recruiting Solutions has partnered with our client to recruit for a Controller based in Markham, ON. Our client, a well established and growing real estate developer, is looking to add an experienced Controller.
Reporting to the VP, Finance and Operations, the Controller will provide day-to-day and strategic support in key areas such as financial, real estate and construction costs. The Controller works in conjunction with the VP, Finance and Operations to ensure all aspects of financial operations are efficient, that costs are actively controlled, and issues are resolved or proactively avoided.
The Controller who excels in this role will be comfortable in an entrepreneurial, fast paced environment, and comfortable multi-tasking. The Controller will build relationships internally and externally in a way that instills confidence and trust, is highly responsive to issues and looks to overcome challenges by developing win-win solutions.
Job Responsibilities
- Supervises all accounting for the company
- Assessment of payables prior to payment (for example, Marketing, construction costs, planning and development etc.)
- Day to day management of accounting, including but not limited to Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Bank Reconciliation, HST tracking, reporting and claims, Payroll management, including CRA requirements
- Tracking and monitoring budgets (including Construction, Sales, Sales Commissions, deposits, expenses, construction expenses, marketing, planning and development costs etc.
- Track, review and reconcile construction costs and invoices in association with the Construction Manager, Contract Manager and Project Manager
- Auditing financial performance on a regular basis
- Financial reporting including filing of taxes and all government remittances
- Tracks and reconciles amendments or other material aspects of the Agreement of Purchase and Sale (APS) to ensure financial control
- Resolves invoice discrepancies and communicates issues to VP, Finance & Operations in a timely manner
- Coordinates with auditors as needed
- Reconciliation of inter-company and intra-company accounts
- Real Estate Development - works with VP, Finance & Operations and President on acquisitions, conducting thorough due diligence on potential acquisitions, sales and marketing programs, closings, sources of financing, special projects related to each stage of development.
Applicant Requirements:
- Post-Secondary Education Diploma or Degree in Accounting
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience including 3 years in a bookkeeping or accounting role
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Power Point, Word, NewStar and Quickbooks.
- Good interpersonal skills
- Fluent in written and verbal English.
- Ability to work accurately under pressure and in an entrepreneurial, fast paced environment
- Comfortable multi-tasking
- Must be eligible to work in Canada.
