Duties
Indigenous Community Liaison Officer - work in a Community Parole Office - specific locations - Hamilton Parole Office, Keele Parole Office (Central Toronto), Kingston Parole Office, London Parole Office, Ottawa Parole Office (Downtown Ottawa), or Sudbury Parole Office
Enhance reintegration opportunities for Indigenous offenders in the community through the identification of needs and resources available to offenders on release to bridge the continuum of care, particularly for those offenders released on statutory release.
Indigenous Liaison Officer - work in a Federal Correctional Institution - specific locations - Kitchener (ON), Kingston (ON), Gravenhurst (ON), Campbellford (ON)
Interpretation and communication of Indigenous offender behaviour, treatment needs and progress to the case management team for inclusion in correctional/healing plans to promote the safe release of Indigenous offenders and to reduce the recidivism rate.
Work environment
The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) is the federal government agency responsible for administering sentences of a term of two years or more, as imposed by the courts. CSC is responsible for managing institutions of various security levels and supervising offenders under conditional release in the community.
The Correctional Service of Canada, as part of the criminal justice system and respecting the rule of law, contributes to public safety by actively encouraging and assisting offenders to become law-abiding citizens, while exercising reasonable, safe, secure and humane control.

This job advertisement is to fill potential vacancies for two different positions - Indigenous Liaison Officer (positions located in a federal correctional facility - specific locations listed above under 'Duties') and Indigenous Community Liaison Officer (positions located in select federal parole offices - specific locations listed above under 'Duties').

In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications)
- Experience applying traditional Indigenous cultural and spiritual teachings and values
- Experience working with Indigenous people, communities or organizations
- Experience using a computer, including the creation of documents and/or reports

Information on language requirements
- A secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education, training and/or experience
Degree equivalency
- Experience in preparing comprehensive reports (only for Indigenous Liaison Officer)
- Knowledge of Indigenous traditions, culture and spirituality, particularly as it relates to Elders
- Knowledge of Indigenous offender needs and/or community resources pertinent to Indigenous people
- Knowledge of Indigenous social, economic, historical and political structures and its impact on the Indigenous offending patterns
- Thinking things through
- Sensitivity to working with diverse groups
- Effective communication skills
- Demonstrating integrity and respect
- Working effectively with others, including Elders and Spiritual Advisors
- Showing initiative and being action oriented

EDUCATION
- Degree or diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution
Degree equivalency
- Experience working with Elders/Spiritual Advisors
- Experience with case management
- Experience working with Indigenous people who have had or are in conflict with the law
- Ability to speak an Indigenous language
