MLTC was created by nine First Nations located in north-west Saskatchewan who have constitutionally recognized aboriginal rights and Treaty Rights under Treaties #6, #8 and #10. The primary purpose of MLTC is to serve those First Nations in their aspirations for cultural, economic and political autonomy. As a private sector employer engaged primarily in promoting and serving the interests of the member First Nations, MLTC asserts its right to provide preferential treatment to First Nations people, giving them priority in decisions on employment matters such as hiring, and this can extend to measures such as opening competitions only to First Nations people.

  • Preference will be given to qualified First Nations applicants or other Indigenous applicants who self-declare as being a First Nations person or of other Indigenous ancestry;

MLTC Health & Social Development Department is seeking dynamic, motivated individuals to fill two (2) full-time, term positions of Jordan’s Principle Coordinators. Terms are from hire date to March 31, 2024 and may be extended based on funding and program needs. The JP Coordinators will access, implement, monitor and report on the activities involving Jordan’s Principle funds within all MLFN communities. These positions will work with families of children/youth with emphasis on aged 0 - 18 years who require support/special services with advocacy and inclusion in their communities that meets Jordan’s Principle criteria.

Duties (include but not limited to):

· Ability to work with and relate to children/youth who are developmentally delayed and with their families’, i.e., help family secure appointments, safe childcare, etc.

· Meet with the family to discuss the family’s child or youth needs/concerns, and identifies their needs or expectations of the program.

· Understanding of and respect for the cultural backgrounds of the families served and the ability to develop trusting relationships with all types of families.

· Support Jordan’s Principle community-based programs and activities as needed, i.e. cultural land based programs.

· Apply for additional funds through Jordan’s Principle from FNIHB as needed to support both individual and group needs.

· Support families as they advocate for their child/youth’s needs, Support students transitions between home and school and school to life.

· Establishes and maintains formal and informal contacts with staff of other human service agencies in the community in order to facilitate the referral process and interagency service delivery.

· Prepares regular written progress reports, post-visit and contact reports, and discharge reports for the child/youth’s file

· Be able to take other projects and tasks that support the MLTC health plans and its organization operations

· Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum:

· Grade 12

· At least one year of experience working with children/youth and their families at home or in a school setting.

Preferred:

· Business Administration Diploma, or Post-secondary degree in Social Work, Education, Health, Health Care Administration

· 3 – 5 years’ work experience in health administration and support.

· Experienced in managing and facilitating focus groups and identifying gaps

Other:

· Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in computer software/database applications (i.e., Microsoft Office)

· Demonstrated ability to maintain accurate documentation and records

· Ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines

· Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills and organizational skills required to develop effective working relationships with First Nation staff, administration, community members and external partners.

· Demonstrated knowledge of first nations history, from colonization to present day, this includes but not limited to the emotional, psychological and spiritual effects of first nations people

· Asset would be Working knowledge of Jordan’s Principle’s mission, history and process

· Maintain confidentiality and safe keeping of agency/client information

· Preference will be given to Member First Nations and/or individuals who speak either Cree or Dene.
