Overview

Pembina Pipeline Corporation’s Sherwood Park office is recruiting for an Advisor, Safety to join the team. This position reports to the Supervisor, Safety in the Sherwood Park office, part of Pembina’s External Affairs Division.


The primary responsibility of this position is to work collaboratively to implement and manage proactive prevention initiatives to further improve performance and ensure compliance with regulatory, industry, and corporate standards.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Champion safe, and cost-effective preventative and loss management approaches in day-to-day pipeline operations and projects to minimize potential losses and ensure compliance with regulatory and corporate policies, standards, procedures, practices, etc.;
  • Work collaboratively with Operations management, staff and contractors to build a strong safety culture;
  • Act as a peer safety coach and mentor for staff and contractors;
  • Conduct and/or review hazard assessments;
  • Provide on-site safety assistance and ensure appropriate resources are in place;
  • Act as a subject matter expert in the interpretation of applicable Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulatory requirements and Pembina Safety Program requirements;
  • Perform or participate in various internal and/or external inspect audits and reviews;
  • Provide field-based reviews to verify procedures and standards are being followed and to promote corporate safety initiatives (i.e., Energy-Based Hazard Recognition, Life Savings Rules etc.);
  • Participate actively in area safety meetings and provide presentations (as required) on key Safety topics;
  • Establish, maintain, and enhance working relationships with stakeholders, including regulators who have jurisdiction over local operations.;
  • Review and assist with incident investigations, development of corrective actions and reporting;
  • Attend and participate in association meetings that are strategic to Pembina including industry mutual aids, and others that may be of value locally as requested by Safety Supervisor and Management;
  • Collaborate with internal Safety and Emergency Management peers and other groups to share ideas, issues, and to promote consistency and best practices;
  • Provide recommendations for support regarding Industrial Hygiene related activities (e.g., sound-level testing, benzene testing, and NORMs testing) when required; and
  • Participate and support an equitable, diverse, and inclusive workplace.

Job Qualifications

  • 5-10 + years of industry experience in the safety discipline preferably within the facilities and pipeline operations industry;
  • Designation or completion of one of the following is Canadian Registered Safety Professional is preferred;
  • Post-secondary education in Occupational Health and Safety
    • Occupational Hygiene education is an asset;
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License required; and
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time.


This position is considered “Safety Sensitive” so will require Pre-Employment Drug & Alcohol Testing. You may also be required to provide a Driver’s Abstract.


The successful candidate must live within 100 km of Sherwood Park.
