SD Avionics is a division of Satcom Direct located in Kanata, the high-tech hub of Ottawa, Ontario. Our second largest site globally, this location manufactures avionics hardware, cabin routers, and the SD Plane Simple Antenna System.

JOB SUMMARY:

Effective management of day-to-day customer shipment requirements; conduct look-ahead order reviews to meet both customer dock dates and site’s on-time-to request (OTTR) targets; packing and stocking Finished Goods with particular attention to product preservation; active participation in internal and external audits; annual review of associated area work instructions (AWI’s) providing feedback emphasizing continual improvements; attention to adherence to site quality objectives and key process indicators.
Other tasks may include closing work orders into inventory, support cycle count activities, perform kit and material issuance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in preparing packages for delivery by validating and prepping contents, creating box labels, and confirming that all accompanying certificates and forms are accurate
  • Responsible for shipping and tracking domestic and international shipments to ensure customer requested delivery dates are met
  • Responsible for selecting the appropriate approved carrier and service level for each shipment
  • Regular use of FedEx Shipping Manager, UPS, DHL, and freight forwarder portals
  • Prepare customs documentation such as the CERS (B13A), commercial invoices, and waybills
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate levels of packing and shipping supplies
  • Ensure product preservation requirements are met. This includes applying safe handling techniques and following ESD and FOD protocols when they apply
  • Facilitate and champion continuous improvement activities. This includes the regular maintenance and review of applicable Area Work Instructions (AWI’s)
  • When required, provide back-up and assistance to Stockperson/Receiver: Cycle counts, kitting, receiving
  • Provide internal customers shipping support and logistical consulting as require
  • Participate in internal and external audits
  • Manage offsite storage

To be successful in this role, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty in a satisfactory manner and should demonstrate all competencies listed above. All employees are expected to adhere to and be knowledgeable of SD operating standards, established safety rules, and adhere to company attendance guidelines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing general office duties for this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and/or walk around (including the use of stairs). Other demands include the ability to openly communicate with others by talking, listening, and reading, able to lift heavy objects (up to 50lbs), and use standard office equipment such as computer, printer, phone, and cell phone as well as various shipping/receiving equipment, tools, and PPE (closed toe shoes and ESD lab coat). In addition, there is an occasional need to bend, twist or stoop in order to open/close cabinets, reach for files, inventory/supplies, or other standard office type objects.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The office environment is generally quiet and, in a temperature, controlled setting with random adjustments in noise or temperature due to others talking or laughing loudly, unscheduled maintenance repairs to the building or its interior offices or unpredictable situations due to weather or other acts beyond company control. Duties will be performed heavily in a warehouse environment. An employee must be willing to work their regularly assigned work schedule for their particular duties and/or job responsibilities and in times of need, be able to work an extended schedule depending on company/department needs, project requirements or customer demands. Work may require some physical effort in the handling of light materials, boxes or equipment. The temperature at client locations can vary from controlled to variations off hot/cold when working, standing or walking in or near the flight-line or maintenance repair center.
