How you will contribute as part of the TRCA team:
Under the guidance of the Senior Manager, the Supervisor, Lake St. George Field Centre is responsible for all aspects of the Lake St. George site including water-based programs, education programs, facility bookings, agreements, budgets and procurement, special events, weekend programs, camps and tracking registration and customer satisfaction.

Key responsibilities of the role include supervision of a diverse staff complement, maintaining and growing a sustainable business model for the facility; development and maintenance of a robust series of partnerships; oversight and evaluation of all educational programs; all water-based programs and required staff certifications, the management and coordination of marketing and communications activities; and oversight over all aspects of food service delivery and facility cleaning.

The Supervisor, Lake St. George Field Centre is a skilled leader, educator, planner, and coordinator with advanced knowledge of industry standards in outdoor education. They also demonstrate advanced-level skills in communications, relationship building and partnership development.

Major Responsibilities:
  • Hire, train, support, lead and supervise full-time and supplementary positions in a variety of roles including the Residential Assistant, Food Service Lead, Cooks, Teacher, Education Coordinator, Cleaners, Camp Counsellors, Education Interpreter and Site Representatives and volunteers. Scheduling of all staff during a 24-hour program model.
  • Manage all tasks associated with the development, delivery, and evaluations of outdoor education at the site.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with school boards, non-school site rental partners including Girl Guides of Canada, Red Leaf, and YMCA. Build relationships and incorporate indigenous learning into the site and the programs offered.
  • Lead the booking and registration of day and overnight school visits and recreational visits including communication with teachers and clients, ensuring necessary documentation is in place and oversight of the quality of the experience.
  • Continue to build day and secondary school programming and support a robust march break and summer camp business year over year.
  • Oversee the food services requests and provision to visiting guests and oversee facility cleaning, light maintenance, and sanitization, restocking and storage of cleaning supplies.
  • Forecast, track (variances), and report on deliverables for the operating budget. Prepare and administer partnership agreements and use the procurement system to purchase goods and services.
  • Maintain regular communications and identify facility and equipment upgrades or large-scale program needs to the Parks Operations Lead.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What will you need to succeed:
  • Post-secondary degree in Education, Environmental Studies, Outdoor Recreation
  • 5 years working experience in an education center or in an education role
  • Experience delivering and supervising staff on water-based programs
  • Experience leading day camp and overnight camp experience is an asset
  • 3 years demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience
  • 3 years demonstrated project management experience
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s license, use of a vehicle
  • NLS, ORCKA, Pleasure Craft Operator (PCOC), Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP), Marine Emergency Duties (MED SDV-BS) is an asset
  • Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Screening is required
  • Active and current First Aid and CPR certificate is required
