This position will report to the Manager of Training Services. As assigned, the position will support all aspects of on and off site training for MPUA member cities utilities (electric, gas, water, wastewater). As assigned, will support the Apprentice Line Worker program, MPUA training center activities, new apprentice program participating members as well as work with the American Public Power Association’s (APPA) Line Worker Rodeo. In addition, this position will interface with the MPUA Line Worker Advisory and Mutual Aid Committees to support all aspects of the apprentice program and all safety related issues. The position will support the chair of the internal MPUA safety committee. In this position they will routinely interface with member cities, trade organizations, and other utilities.

Examples of Work Performed

1. Skill sets should include comfort in leading training sessions including but not limited to introductions, championing and fostering relevant discussion, up to and including the ability to situationally train.

2. Schedule and administer monthly on-site written tests for line worker apprentice program.

3. Schedule and administer year-end final written tests for line worker apprentice program.

4. Participate in the budget process for line worker training programs.

5. Update written tests as necessary.

6. Promote line worker safety/training programs. Help augment and support the development of safety training programs for all member cities.

7. Serve on MPUA’s internal safety committee.

8. Prepare/deliver information regarding line worker training and mutual aid for staff/board meetings, including line worker Advisory and Mutual Aid committee meetings.

9. Act as backup mutual aid coordinator for local, regional, and national assistance.

10. Serve on APPA Mutual Aid Committee.

11. Help coordinate with the APPA and vendors to purchase and promote products and services to MPUA members.

12. Coordinate the annual APPA Line worker Rodeo.

13. Promote member services.

14. Develop training programs and services requested by members.

15. Assist with development of hands-on training for line workers (apprentice and advanced).

16. Assist with update of resource materials for line worker training (apprentice and advanced).

17. Assist with line worker training center scheduling as necessary. This may include occasional back-up for the Inside Coordinator.

18. Other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Competencies, And Abilities

1. High School diploma or GED and knowledge of electrical distribution system operation which is normally acquired through five years of progressively responsible experience.

2. Knowledge of electrical distribution systems mathematics which are normally acquired through vocational and technical training.

3. Certification as a journeyman line worker preferred. The ideal candidate for this position would also have exposure to utility work related to municipal utilities (water, wastewater, and gas.)

4. A meaningful goal would be toward obtaining a Certified Utility Safety Professional designation (CUSP)

5. CPR/AED/basic first aid certification.

6. Valid state driver’s license with the ability to drive throughout the State of Missouri and occasional out-of-State travel when needed.

7. Basic computer skills to include use of Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Will also learn other software identified in MPUA processes and procedures.

8. Demonstrated interactive written and verbal communication skills, capable of explaining complex or detailed concepts to a variety of audiences in presentations, speeches, briefings, informal meetings, etc.

9. Experience in the development and presentation of adult technical training courses in formal and informal settings and facilitate discussions in same.

10. Demonstrated experience in developing, scheduling and maintaining training schedules.

11. Ability to work long hours to cover all member cities requiring testing in the apprentice program including overnight stays.

12. Ability to work independently, set priorities, and manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.

c. National Electric Safety Code

d. National Electric Code

e. American Public Power Association Mutual Aid Playbook

14. Supervisory experience preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $72,327.00 - $90,408.00 per year
