Forest Protection Limited (FPL) invites applications for the services of up to five Summer Assistants. These will be summer positions (May – Sept 2023) assisting with our field operations and aerial treatment programs. FPL offers a diverse work environment that requires its staff to function in several different roles. Staff will initially be required to report to, and be based out of, FPL’s head office at the Fredericton Airport for orientation (approximately 1 week) but will be deployed on long-term assignments to Newfoundland, and northern New Brunswick for up to 6 weeks, thereafter.
Job duties

Setup & takedown of aircraft loading systems / equipment

Use of small equipment including pumps and generators

Work around fixed and rotary-winged aircraft

Spray block signage, site identification and assessment
-
Navigation and transportation to remote forested areas via logging roads

Extended periods of travel up will be required (up to 30 days continuously, expenses paid)

Split and variable-length shifts as well as work on weekends will be required

Safe handling of pesticides

Role involves periods of manual labor and extensive driving
Essential Qualifications

Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license

Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

Functional written & verbal communication in English

Employee must provide CSA approved safety footwear (all other protective equipment will be supplied by FPL)
Asset Qualifications

Related work experience
-
Bilingualism (English and French)

A working knowledge of small equipment (gas powered pumps, generators, etc.)

Comfort working in remote locations for extended periods of time with poor (or no) cellular reception

Experience driving pickup trucks on logging / dirt roads

Forklift safety training
-
Pesticide license (if you do not possess one, FPL will provide training to acquire appropriate licensing)

Special consideration will be given to students enrolled in programs related to the job duties (i.e., forestry, aviation, or the biosciences, etc.)
Salary will range from $18/hour to $22/hour and will be determined based on a combination of work experience and progress through your program of study. Average of 40 hours per week.
